general information about tennis

Tennis is a racket sport that can be played individually against a single opponent (singles) or between two teams of two players each (doubles). Each player uses a tennis racket that is strung with cord to strike a hollow rubber ball covered with felt over or around a net and into the opponent's court. The object of the game is to maneuver the ball in such a way that the opponent is not able to play a valid return. The player who is unable to return the ball will not gain a point, while the opposite player will. ("Tennis," 2001)

What tennis is for me

For me tennis has always been presence in my life. Since I was little I have always been on the court, it is hard for me to imagine my life without it. Tennis has built me as the person that I am today, I have had moments of joy and moments of pain on the court, but whenever I looked back to what I have done on the court to to what I have achieved as a tennis player I am always proud of myself. Despite not being a famous sport in the United States, tennis is a very competitive sport. No matter how far you go or how good you become, there will be always someone better than you, and that is what I most love about the sport. It is always a challenge, you cannot give up to be better ever, because people will start catching you up and leave you behind in the sport. It can be very stressful but it definitely teaches you perseverance, consistency and hard work, and at the end of the day it shows you that everything pays off.
